Tree Okra (Abelmoschus manihot)

Tree okra, also known as eternal okra or South Sea salad tree, is a tropical perennial plant prized for its stunning appearance and edible leaves. Unlike regular okra, which is grown for its pods, tree okra is cultivated mainly for its large, soft, deeply lobed leaves that have a mild, slightly mucilaginous flavor—perfect for soups, stir-fries, and fresh salads.

This fast-growing plant can reach 6–10 feet tall in a single season in warm climates, developing thick, woody stems and a bushy structure. It's not only a useful edible, but also an ornamental, thanks to its bright yellow, hibiscus-like blooms. Tree okra thrives in warm, humid environments and is often grown as an annual in cooler zones or overwintered indoors in containers.
